Arbitration is a form of alternative dispute resolution. It is typically faster and can be a less expensive way to resolve a civil or commercial dispute. Arbitration may offer more privacy regarding the facts of the case compared to a civil litigation in court. Because most arbitration hearings lead to a binding resolution (meaning that it is enforceable in court and cannot be overturned without proving extraordinary circumstances) it is important to have an attorney there to represent you. Just as in a trial, your arbitration lawyer will present your case to the arbitrator, can prepare you for possible cross-examination by the opposing counsel, and can guide you through the process.
